Our instructors are fully accredited Angling Trust Level 1 and 2 coaches and are all DBS certified.
Kev is a Level 2 Qualified Coach and has coached the junior academy since 2004. Kev has been angling since the age of 4 and has developed knowledge and experience within coarse, game and sea angling. He learnt to fish on the little beck at Stainfield before moving onto the river Witham at Bardney. Whilst in the R.A.F Kev represented them in coarse, sea and game angling. Experiences have taken him around both the UK and the world gaining many credits including individual championships on the river Avon and many league wins on still waters. Retiring from match fishing at the end of the 1990s, Kev spent a great deal of time coaching his son Danny and now the juniors within the Angling academy. Kev loves all venues natural coarse and sea, and will show you his talent on the yearly "Lads vs Dads" match!
Kev started angling in his early teens on his local section of the river witham, soon joining a local junior club in his school town of Horncastle. Fishing local rivers like the Bain, Trent and Witham along with deep gravel pits. The regular local and national fishing matches further strengthened his knowledge and passion.
Thanks to the coaches and local fishermen that passed on their passion for angling, Kev has always remembered how important this was for his fishing. Many years later Kev began to pass this knowledge and passion to his own children who thrived being members of the juniors. During this time Kev also decided to return to the match scene locally on commercial and natural venues latterly competing in national tournaments on some iconic rivers across the UK.
Even though his older children have grown up and moved on, he has remained a keen member of the organisational team, he is often found checking venues prior to the clubs match days. Kev has an amazing passion for angling and his knowledge will continue to inspire others in the art of angling for many years to come.
Tom joined the academy in his teenage years and learnt a lot in the academy, enabling to compete in the national and open match circuits. During his time with the academy Tom won the intermediate pole champs at Westwood Lakes and entered multiple competitions with the academy, including the county champs, east coast league and nationals. Tom has helped out the juniors informally since leaving but has now devoted time to give back and support the academy he loves. Tom enjoys both natural and commercial fishing, the river Trent, Barston lakes and Hallcroft to name a few.
Julian's love for fishing started when he was just eight and was introduced to the sport by a close friend and neighbour. Julian would spend days fishing with his friend at Starmers and local gravel workings in and around Hykeham. Later when he started work, he was introduced to river and canal fishing by an older gentleman whom he still takes fishing today. This is where his love for fishing the Witham and the Trent was formed. He got involved with the academy when he brought his son Kaden along who is also now a keen angler. Julian's other love is grassroots football where he has coached children at both Greenbank FC and Lincoln City FC, so have lots of experience supporting and developing kids.
Dave got back into fishing a few years ago when his son, Will, wanted to give it a go. It was a great way to spend some time with his sons and got them all outside and enjoying the great British weather. Both of Dave's sons are part of the Academy and learnt a massive amount in the first year from the coaches and other members.
Sarah became involved in the club in 2011, when her step son joined the academy. Sarah has helped out with the BBQ yearly. She has also often been seen on both cold weather, but more on warm weather days, on the side of the bank in a supportive role for both her step son and youngest step daughter during their time with the club. Sarah’s little one is 3 and is already keen to catch fish. Sarah’s background is in early years and teaching. Her knowledge of safeguarding is extensive and Sarah has taken the role of Safeguarding Officer to offer support and advice to all of those involved in the club.
